CARS - Controlled Articular Rotations Intro Course

The first step to becoming a better athlete is improving your joint mobility.

These videos feature exercises that are designed to help you move better. If you move better, you will avoid injury be a better athlete and a better human! You will find that they are two types of exercises in these videos: rotations and Pails/Rails exercises. The rotation exercises will help you establish joint mobility and range of motion that you’ve lost over the years. Pails/Rails stands for Progressive Angular Isometric Loading and Regressive Angular Isometric Loading are simply isometric contractions with force applied at end range in each direction. A simple way to look at it is, the joint rotations help the joint capsule reach it’s full capability and the Pails/Rails help you establish and maintain control of the joints at end-range.

In order to improve your range of motion, you need to be at end-range and contract the muscles! Just going through the rotations won’t improve range of motion. You must push yourself at end range if you want to improve.

Several years ago I joined a gym owned in Newberg Oregon that is owned and operated by Dewey Nielsen.

Dewey is a black belt in Jiu Jitsu and one of the finest trainers in the country. His specialty and focus is to help people become better movers. He developed a relationship with another fitness guru named Andreo Spina who also has a keen interest in movement. Spina has done extensive research and developed a method that is backed by science to help improve mobility and reduce the likelihood of injuries. He and Nielsen offer a certification course called Functional Range Conditioning or FRC for short.

Last year I took the FRC course, quit my normal workout and started performing the mobility exercises. I did this for over a year before adding resistance training back into my workouts.

I am here because I want to share what I've learned from Dewey and Spina and help you become a better mover, experience fewer injuries, be more active in the outdoors and have less pain while doing it.

I want you to know that I am not as mobile as I want to be and with each day that passes, I will try to improve myself even further.
